Here in MOPA we have some highly talented people, not just in the faculty but within the student body as well. These people have learned what you are learning, have experienced the same education as yourself, and are emerging into the same industry you are. We feel that our upperclassmen might have some wisdom to share, and we think that you might be interested in learning from them!

With such a variety of fields in our industry we are offering four workshops, one in production design, one in cinematography, one in producing, and one in directing.

You can sign up for these sessions by emailing sarahbuchanan2@my.capilanou.ca. You can reserve a space in the session in advance, otherwise the session will be filled on a first come, first served basis on the day.

See more of our talented 4th Years below!

Cinematography:

Taught by experienced Director of Photography Cameron Heo, this workshop will focus on how to thrive as a DoP within the MOPA program. Moving away from the technical aspects of cinematography, this session will centre on theoretical and leadership aspects of the DoP role. Cam will also cover his process for building a creative vision with the director. Applicable to aspiring DoPs, this workshop has been designed to also be helpful to directors, production designers, and all key creatives.

This session will take place on September 24th in BOSA 309.

Production Design:

Taught by 4th Year student Devon Reese, this workshop will focus on getting started as a Production Designer and thriving here in MOPA. From which classes to take to working with directors, Devon has a wealth of experience to share. This workshop aims to help you get a handle on the fundamentals of production designing throughout school, showing you where to source things from, how to create a look-book, and where you can begin once you leave MOPA.

This session will take place on October 17th in BOSA 309.

Producing

Taught by Collective leader and producing concentration student Sarah Buchanan, this workshop will focus on the creative components of producing and how to lead a team. Discussing script development, forming the best team possible, and supporting them to success are all integral aspects of this workshop. Script development, casting, and executing a large scale vision are key points of this session.

This session will take place on November 6th in BOSA 309.

Directing:

Led by Micah Estlin, this workshop is focused on the director's mindset. Micah will discuss creating a story that is meaningful to you and a wider audience, how to learn as a director, and how to utilise the knowledge your key people bring to your production. Keeping story at the heart of production, and in the centre of the director's vision are key components of this workshop.

This session will take place in late November/ December. Exact date is TBD.
